Anker SOLIX X1
A modular hybrid storage system we install regularly. What it is, how it stacks, where it is the right answer and where it is not.

What it is
The Anker SOLIX X1 is a hybrid single-phase energy storage system. Hybrid means one unit manages the solar array, the battery and the household demand together, rather than bolting an AC-coupled battery onto an existing string inverter after the fact.
It is modular. The power module sits at the top and battery modules stack beneath it, so capacity is set by how many modules you specify rather than by buying a different product.
Why we fit it
Three things, in order of how much they actually matter. It stacks, so a household that wants 5kWh now and 15kWh later is not buying the wrong box today. It is a genuine hybrid, which keeps the installation simpler and the commissioning cleaner. And the monitoring is good enough that a fault shows up as a notification rather than as a bill three months later.
It is not the answer to everything. A property already running a healthy string inverter may be better served by an AC-coupled retrofit than by replacing working equipment.
How it stacks

Where it goes
Indoors or out. We have installed X1 units in garages, plant rooms, utility spaces and externally against a wall on a prepared base. The deciding factors are access for servicing, ambient temperature, and how far the position is from the incoming supply — that last one being the item most likely to move the price.
Backup and EV charging
The X1 range includes a whole-home backup arrangement and a matching EV charger. Configured properly, charging the car draws from solar and grid rather than quietly emptying the house battery — a mistake we have been called out to correct on other people’s installations more than once.
Monitoring
The system reports through the Anker app: generation, consumption, state of charge, grid import and export. Commissioning is done through the installer side of the same app, which is why handover paperwork and the app data agree with each other.
