Solar Panel Installers in Berkshire

Solar panels, battery storage and EV chargers for homes across Berkshire, designed and installed from our base at Burghfield Common, just outside Reading. Most of the county is under an hour from us, so surveys, installs and aftercare visits are local work, not a long drive.

Berkshire installations we have documented

These are completed Berkshire jobs, each written up with the equipment, the layout decisions and photographs from the property.

Berkshire towns we cover

Each town page covers the housing stock, roof types and planning considerations we find there.

Around Reading we also have pages for Caversham, Woodley, Lower Earley, Tilehurst, Burghfield.

Berkshire homes and roofs

Berkshire has a wide spread of housing, and the right system changes with it:

  • Victorian and Edwardian terraces in central Reading, Newbury and Windsor — narrow, often slate roofs with chimneys and rear outriggers, where layout and shading need careful work. See solar on Victorian terraces.
  • 1930s semi-detached homes in Tilehurst, Caversham and Maidenhead — hipped tile roofs that usually take fewer panels than their footprint suggests. See 1930s semis.
  • Post-war and new-town housing in Bracknell, Woodley and Earley — simpler roofs that often suit a straightforward array plus storage.
  • Modern estates around Wokingham and Thatcham — good roofs, but consumer units and meter positions matter for battery siting. See new-build homes.
  • Rural West Berkshire — barns, outbuildings and larger plots where ground-mounted solar can be the better answer.

Planning and grid connection in Berkshire

Roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development in most of Berkshire. The exceptions are listed buildings and conservation areas — several town centres, including parts of Reading, Newbury, Windsor and Hungerford — and some extra limits apply within the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, which covers much of West Berkshire. We check the position for your address before anything is ordered. See do I need planning permission for solar panels?

Berkshire sits in the Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) distribution area, so it is SSEN that receives the G98 notification or G99 application for your system. We handle that paperwork as part of the installation. See G98 and G99 explained.
